Police seize 50 kg ganja worth over Rs 11 lakh on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway

Two men were arrested on Thursday while they were transporting 50.2 kilograms of ganja on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway.

Based on a tip-off about drugs smuggling, a team from Crime Branch unit 3 of Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) police laid a trap near Chinchoti over-bridge in Vasai (east).

According to a report published in The Indian Express, the duo was trying to smuggle the contraband in a rickshaw and was going towards Mumbai.

The team intercepted the rickshaw at around 12.45 am and found two white sacks which contained drugs worth Rs 11.44 lakh.

The accused were identified as Ajay Waghe, 27, a resident of Nalasopara (east), and Jay Patil, 24, a resident of Dahisar (east).

“We are questioning them to find the source of the drugs and where they were taking it,” said a crime branch official, as reported by Indian Express.

A case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC.
