Toronto police have identified a 20-year-old man as a suspect and arrested two others in relation to the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy last year.
Jahkai Jack, of Toronto, was shot “without provocation” the evening of June 7, 2025 near Emmett Avenue and Jane Street, said police at a news conference last year.
Officers have now identified Abdul Yeberebaba, of Toronto, as the suspect in the case. He's wanted by police on a Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder, said Det.-Sgt. Phillip Campbell at a news conference on Thursday.
Two Toronto men, 19-year-old Jayden Samuel-James and 21-year-old Rajveer Gill, were arrested and charged this week with accessory after the fact to murder, said Campbell.
He said Gill was arrested in B.C. and will be returned to Toronto.
Jack was shot following a verbal exchange at a “gathering” in the area. Police said he was not involved in any gangs or criminal activity.
“He was simply a young person meeting friends on a Saturday night,” said Campbell. “His family continues to live with the unimaginable loss of a child whose life was just beginning.”
At the time, investigators had little information on the suspect other than he was male and wearing dark clothes during the shooting.
After the shooting, Jack was taken by people at the park to a nearby health-care centre. Residents in the area said cries for help at the facility's front door went ignored as the teen lay bleeding out.
Campbell said he issued a warning last year that anyone found helping the suspect would also face charges. The latest arrests, he said, are proof that they “meant what [they] said.”
“If you choose to help someone avoid accountability, you’re committing a serious criminal offence,” he said.
Campbell urged Yeberebaba to turn himself in to police.
Anyone who believes they have seen the suspect or has any information is requested to contact police or Crime Stoppers immediately, Campbell said.
“If anybody out there has anything, even an idea or a theory … of where [Yeberebaba] might be, give me a call. I’ll investigate it. I want to get this person into custody,” he said.
