DMK Erode Central unit urges action on drinking water crisis and education challenges, seeks government intervention for solutions.
DMK Erode Central district unit in-charge, Thoppu N.D. Venkatachalam, met District Collector Raja Gopal Sunkara on Tuesday and urged him to take necessary action to resolve the drinking water crisis in the Perundurai Assembly constituency.
In a petition submitted at the Collectorate, he stated that the constituency currently receives water from the Kodiveri Combined Water Supply Scheme (CWSS) and the New Tiruppur CWSS. However, water distribution to residents remains inadequate due to pump operators failing to supply water on time. It was revealed that delays in salary payments to these operators had resulted in a lack of commitment to their duties. “The Collector should intervene and take necessary action to ensure that people receive sufficient water during the summer,” he emphasised.
Mr. Venkatachalam also highlighted the challenges faced by students in the Bhavani Assembly constituency, who have to travel 50 km to attend college. As most of their parents are daily wage earners, many students are unable to pursue higher education, leading to an increase in dropout rates. He urged the government to establish an arts and science college in Bhavani. Additionally, he requested adequate compensation for farmers who lost their cattle due to stray dog attacks across the district.
