People burst crackers to celebrate reopening of liquor shops in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore

Alcohol aficionados in Coimbatore, who had gathered outside liquor shops, smashed coconuts in front of the stores and burst crackers to celebrate their reopening after two months.

Alcohol aficionados in Coimbatore were unable to control their joy as liquor shops reopened after nearly two months in the region, with some bursting fireworks in celebration. Due to a spike in daily positive cases, strict lockdown restrictions were imposed in 11 districts in Tamil Nadu in a bid to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission. At the same time, curbs were relaxed in other districts where the number of cases were low.
