NDA nominates Peela Srinivasa Rao as GVMC Mayor candidate, set for election against YSRCP corruption.
The NDA nominated TDP floor leader and corporator of Ward No. 97 of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), Peela Srinivasa Rao, as its candidate for the GVMC Mayor post and issued him the B-Form on Sunday, just a day before the much-anticipated Mayor elections scheduled for 11 a.m. on Monday.
The GVMC officials have geared up and made all arrangements for the special meeting where the council members are set to elect the new Mayor. However, with the support of the NDA corporators and ex-officio members, Mr. Rao is expected to be the only contender for the coveted post.
Joint Collector and the presiding officer of the election, Mayur Ashok, inspected the arrangements with the GVMC officials. The election will be held as per the directives from the Andhra Pradesh Election Commission.
Meanwhile, district TDP president, Gandi Babjee, issuing the B-Form to Mr. Rao, said that the YSRCP was involved in large-scale corruption that took place in the city in the last five years and that the NDA corporators had to push for a no-confidence motion to end the YSRCP rule.
Mr. Babjee also assured that under the NDA government, the GVMC will witness a number of development activities.
It may be recollected that the council, on April 19, passed the no-confidence motion against the sitting Mayor G. Hari Venkata Kumari of the YSRCP.
