Peel police seize over $1M in drugs, a loaded gun after series of search warrants

Peel police have arrested and charged a 29-year-old man after conducting search warrants that led to the seizure of over $1 million in illegal drugs and a loaded handgun.
Officers from the 22 Division Community Intervention and Response Team (CIRT) seized 13 kilograms of illegal drugs, including crystal methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl, along with 1,000 rounds of ammunition, Peel police said in a news release Thursday.
The investigation started in September after police received a tip from the community about a “suspected drug trafficking operation within the Region of Peel,” the release said.
CIRT officers found a Toronto resident, police say, who was seen conducting “multiple drug transactions across the region.”
The accused has been charged with multiple criminal offences, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of firearm, prohibited device or ammunition and five counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, the release said.
Police say he was held for a bail hearing in Brampton.
In the news release, Peel police Chief Nishan Duraiappah said the "enhanced presence" from CIRT “enabled our officers to make this arrest and remove dangerous drugs and a firearm before they could cause harm.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
