Parliament approves bill to combine 7 different castes under single category in poll-bound Tamil Nadu

The Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2021 was passed to combine seven castes in Tamil Nadu under the single classification of Devendrakula Vellalars. 

The Rajya Sabha on Monday passed a bill that will amend the list of Scheduled Castes in poll-bound Tamil Nadu and club seven different castes under one category. The Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2021 was passed to combine seven castes in Tamil Nadu under the single classification of Devendrakula Vellalars. The passage of the bill in the Upper House completes the parliamentary approval process. Lok Sabha had passed it last week and it will now be sent to the President for his approval.
