Pakistan Cricket Board shifts ODI series against West Indies to Multan due to Imran Khan's protest rally

Pakistan and West Indies will play the three-match ODI series between June 8-12. The ODI series, which was postponed last year due to Covid-19 pandemic, will have no bio-secure bubble.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has shifted the ODI series against West Indies from Rawalpindi to Multan in the wake of expected protest rallies by the former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The teams are scheduled to play the ODI series, comprising three matches, from June 8 to 12.

The former Prime Minister of Pakistan is planning protest rallies in Islamabad, which is adjacent to Rawalpindi, in the coming days, according to AP news agency.

Khan had called off a planned rally last week in Islamabad after personally leading thousands of his supporters during a march.

The Pakistan Cricket Board had kept Multan as a back-up option for the ODI series, which is part of the World Cup Super League. The PCB has been relying on the National Stadium in Karachi and Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore to host international matches.

West Indies will land in Islamabad on June 6 and leave for Multan on a charter flight the same day.

The ODI series was postponed last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Pakistan and West Indies played three T20Is before the outbreak of the virus in their camp. The forthcoming ODI series will have no bio-secure bubble.
