The Electricity Department of Gautam Budh Nagar will cut the power connection of about 85,000 consumers. The disconnection exercise by the power department is expected to be initiated from next week on about 85,000 consumers who have not cleared their dues.

In an attempt to take strict action against the power defaulters in the city, the Electricity Department of Gautam Budh Nagar will cut the power connection of about 85,000 consumers.

The disconnection exercise by the power department is expected to be initiated from next week on about 85,000 consumers who have not cleared their dues.

According to a report published in the News 18, Chief Engineer of Gautam Budh Nagar Electricity Department, BN Singh said that about 1.27 lakh people in the district had not deposited their electricity bills, following which a one-time settlement scheme was introduced by the corporation for such consumers.

However, only 42,000 people took advantage of it and cleared their bills. The rest of the consumers have now been listed.

Since power defaulters will now be taken into account, a case of electricity theft will also be registered against those who will try establishing their electricity connection without paying the pending bills.

As per reports by News 18, Santosh Kumar, Sub-Divisional Officer of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Department had conducted a raid in Faizhad last week after matter of power theft was reported.
