One win away from being champion: Pep Guardiola ready to ‘give their lives’ to defend Premier League title

Manchester City will win back to back Premier League titles if they are able to beat Aston Villa in their final game on Sunday 22 May. The title would quash the hopes of Liverpool’s quadruple dream as they trail by four points having played one less game.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said that it will be an incredible feeling to win the Premier League title in front of a packed Etihad stadium on Sunday, 22 May. City take on Aston Villa in their final game of the season and would secure the Premier League if they manage to win the tie.

"Next week our stadium will be sold out, we will give them our lives and they will give theirs, all together," Guardiola said. "To do it is an incredible privilege, after many years.

"To have our chance with our people, to win one game to be champions. I'm looking forward to it."

Guardiola’s City might be crowned champions on Tuesday itself, if Liverpool lose their next game, however the manager said that City will remain focused on their own game.

"If they lose or win it depends on us do the most perfect game we possibly can do," Guardiola added.

"Against this Liverpool you cannot win the league four games ago. You have to fight until the end. The big privilege is that it is at home and it is in our hands."

City were held to a 2-2 draw at West Ham United in their penultimate game, and are four points clear of Liverpool at the moment. Their campaign was made slightly easier after Liverpool drew with Tottenham in a frustrating 1-1 game which allegedly led Jurgen Klopp to tell the dressing room that their title hopes were over. However, the manager denied that the comment was ever made.
