This comes after two Bangladeshi nationals, Rahul alias Faisal Karim Masud (37) and Alamgir Hossain (34), were apprehended by the West Bengal Police STF last week in the intervening night of March 7 and 8. The duo were arrested from West Bengal’s Bongaon area in North 24 Parganas district near the border area. The STF team acted based on credible information and conducted raids to arrest the two suspects.
During the investigation, police learnt that due to rising pressure, Sangma himself crossed over to India through the same border that he used to help Faisal and Alamgir cross over. Officials also confirmed that Sangma spent many days in West Bengal in multiple places and was also trying to head back to Bangladesh.
“Philip Sangma is produced before the court today (14.03.2026) and remanded in police custody for further investigation,” the police statement stated.
