On this day: Sachin Tendulkar makes international debut and plays his last Test innings, 24 years apart
India Today
Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut on November 15, 1989 against Pakistan in Karachi. On the same date 24 years later, he walked out to bat for the last time in Test cricket at a packed Wankhede Stadium.
Sachin Tendulkar started his prolific 24-year career on November 15, 1989 and, incidentally, batted for the last time in international cricket on the same date in 2013. Tendulkar ended his career as the highest run scorer in international cricket, scoring a whopping 34,357 runs in 664 matches but it all started with a 24-ball 15 in Karachi.
At 16 years and 205 days, Tendulkar remains the youngest to play international cricket for India. He walked out to face a Pakistani fast bowling that consisted of Waqar Younis, who was also making his Test debut, Wasim Akram and Imran Khan. It was Waqar who took Tendulkar's wicket in the first innings and he ended up not getting to bat in the second as the match ended in a draw.
