Nurul Hasan appointed Bangladesh captain for Zimbabwe T20Is, Mahmudullah rested

Nurul Hasan Sohan will lead Bangladesh in the three-match T20I series in Zimbabwe. Mahmudullah has been rested from the 20-over matches.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), on Friday, July 22, named the T20I and ODI squads for the tour of Zimbabwe. Mahmudullah Riyad has been rested from the T20I series and in his absence, Nurul Hasan Sohan will take charge of the team. Mushfiqur Rahim failed to break into the T20I team, although he is a part of the matches in the 50-over format.

Earlier, team director Khaled Mahmud Sujon said that the Bangladesh team management wasn’t quite pleased with Mahmudullah’s captaincy. On Friday, the BCB had a discussion with Mahmudullah, after which the decision to rest the latter was taken.

''We have decided that Nurul Hasan will lead the side in the upcoming T20Is. It is not that Sohan will lead the team in the World Cup. We felt the T20 squad should make a new start as they are not performing well and we want the new guys to express them,” Mahmud was quoted as saying.

Shakib Al Hasan has opted to miss the series and it is understood that he will return for the Asia Cup. Fast bowler Hasan Mahmud has been included in the ODI squad, while Ebadot Hossain failed to hold on to his place.
