‘Not cool’: Nushrratt Bharuccha on being replaced by Ananya Panday in ‘Dream Girl 2’

Chhorii 2 star Nushrratt Bharuccha has opened up on how she felt when she was replaced by actor Ananya Panday in the sequel to 2019’s Dream Girl

Bollywood star Nushrratt Bharuccha, currently in the limelight for her performance in Chhorii 2, has opened up about how she felt when she was replaced by actor Ananya Panday in the sequel to the 2019 film Dream Girl, co-starring Ayushmann Khurana. Nushrratt has questioned why the makers of the sequel, which retained every other actor, chose to replace her in the film.

In an interview with Nayandeep Rakshit, the actor spoke about her challenges in the industry, after which she expressed her disappointment in being replaced in the sequel. “It hurt me even more when I was not part of my own sequel also, when every other actor was the same except the girl, which I felt was, not cool naa, guys? Just not cool. But, theek hai, no problem.”

When asked if she fought the decision with the makers, she replied, “I can’t fight something I know is not going to change in any way; what do I fight? What am I going to say? ‘Why not me?’ They’ll say, ‘because we don’t want you.’ That’s the truth of it; it ends there. Eventually, it’s the choice somebody’s making, right? I cannot question your choice,” said Nushrratt, adding that the only fight she can fight is by not giving up on herself. “It’s by saying I’ll work with people who want to work with me,” she added.

This isn’t the first time Nushrratt has spoken about being recasted in Dream Girl 2. “I was a part of Dream Girl 1, and I love that whole team. I terribly miss working with them. But why didn’t they cast me in Dream Girl 2? I think only they can answer. I don’t know; there is no logic, and there is no answer to it. But why didn’t they cast me? I am a human being, so of course it hurts. And, of course, it feels unfair. But I get it, it is their decision. Cool, no problem,” she told ETimes in 2023, ahead of the release of Akeli, which interestingly released on the same day as Dream Girl 2.

Nushrratt can currently be seen in Chhorii 2, a sequel to the 2021 horror film Chhorii. Directed by Vishal Furia, the film features Soha Ali Khan in a pivotal role. Gashmeer Mahajani, Saurabh Goyal, Pallavi Ajay, Kuldeep Sareen, and Hardika Sharma are also part of the cast. The film is produced by T-Series, Abundantia Entertainment, Psych, and Tamarisk Lane Production.
