CBC
A Wednesday night house fire in Windsor caused around $750,000 in damage, according to the city’s fire department.
Also, no one was hurt.
It broke out around 6:30 p.m. at a residence on Victoria Avenue at Montrose Street.
An investigator is expected to be on scene Thursday to try and determine where the blaze started and what caused it to spark.
Responding fire crews encountered thick smoke at the scene. They entered the home but there was zero visibility in the basement and first floor, Windsor fire said in a social media post.
Firefighters were able to get out of the building but the blaze was spreading rapidly, according to the fire service. They switched to a defensive strategy, pouring water on the home from the outside, the fire service said.
More than 30 firefighters were on scene at one point, the fire service said, along with police and EMS.
At the same time, firefighters responded to a second blaze at a home on Ellis Street, about two blocks away. That one was caused by careless cooking.
