NIA court sentences man accused of supporting ISIS activities in Maharashta to 7 years in prison

A man accused of supporting ISIS activities was sentenced to seven years in prison by the special NIA court in Mumbai on Monday.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court in Mumbai sentenced a man accused of supporting ISIS activities to seven years of rigorous imprisonment on Monday. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him.
The man, identified as Naserbin Abubakar Yafai, is a resident of Parbhani in Maharashtra.
He has been convicted under sections 13, 16, 18, 18-B, 20, 38, 39 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, section 120-B of the Indian Penal Code and section 4 and 5 of Explosive Substance Act, 1908.
As per the case, the accused used online resources to contact members of the Islamic State to support terrorist activities.
The case was initially registered in Mumbai in 2016 and later transferred to the NIA. After investigation, a chargesheet was filed against four people the same year.
The trial against the other three accused is underway.
