NIA arrests TMC leader Chhatradhar Mahato from Lalgarh over 2009 case

Erstwhile Maoist sympathiser and now a TMC member, Chhatradhar Mahato, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) late on Saturday night.

Erstwhile Maoist sympathiser and now a TMC member, Chhatradhar Mahato, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) late on Saturday night. NIA arrested Chhatradhar Mahato from his house in Lalgarh of Jhargram district. Chhatradhar Mahato, who was the convenor of the Maoist-backed People Against Police Atrocities (PCPA), was arrested in a 2009 Rajdhani Express hostage case. The Calcutta High Court had on Thursday directed Chhatradhar Mahato to appear at the NIA office thrice a week for alleged involvement in the murder case and prevented his arrest.
