NFL star Richard Sherman said he was "deeply remorseful" Friday after prosecutors in Washington state charged the former Seahawks and 49ers player with DUI and other crimes. Police said Sherman drunkenly crashed his SUV in a construction zone and tried to break into his in-laws' home.
"I behaved in a manner I am not proud of," Sherman wrote on Twitter. "I have been dealing with some personal challenges over the past several months, but that is not an excuse for how I acted." Sherman, who was released from jail Thursday, had a court arraignment scheduled Friday on five criminal charges: driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless endangerment of road workers, criminal trespassing, resisting arrest and malicious mischief. They are all misdemeanors, punishable by up to 90 days in jail, or gross misdemeanors, punishable by up to one year.Ashley White received her earliest combat action badge from the United States Army soon after the first lieutenant arrived in Afghanistan. The silver military award, recognizing soldiers who've been personally engaged by an attacker during conflict, was considered an achievement in and of itself as well as an affirming rite of passage for the newly deployed. White had earned it for using her own body to shield a group of civilian women and children from gunfire that broke out in the midst of her third mission in Kandahar province. All of them survived. She never mentioned the badge to anyone in her battalion.
