Scientists at the University of Cambridge released a study indicating that signs of dementia can be found nearly a decade before a diagnosis.
The study was published in Alzheimer's & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association. Researchers used information from the U.K. Biobank database to look for impairments relating to dementia, including problem-solving and number recall.
"When we looked back at patients' histories, it became clear that they were showing some cognitive impairment several years before their symptoms became obvious enough to prompt a diagnosis," said the study's author Nol Swaddiwudhipong in a statement to Bloomberg.
