Ahead of the announcement of the new chief minister of Gujarat, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel on Sunday said the leader will have to be "popular, strong, experienced, and the one who is known and acceptable to all". Nitin Patel is among the frontrunners for the top post after Vijay Rupani stepped down as the chief minister on Saturday. The deputy CM told reporters in Gandhinagar that he would not speak about any individual's name at the moment and the BJP's central leadership would decide on the new chief minister.
