New breed of Yaks to be introduced in villages along LAC in Ladakh

Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche, the Green Ambassador of UT of Ladakh, has undertaken an initiative to save the nomadic lives and to promote sustainable development in domestic Yak preservation by buying male and female hybrid animals, wild Yak (Bos mutus) and domesticated Yak (Bos grunniens), from Pangong valley and distributing it to the different valleys of Lalok regions among the eight Gobas of the region.
The primary objective of the initiative is to spread the stronger and healthier genetic breed of the Wild Yak in the valley. Yak is a very important animal in the high-altitude area and also plays a big role in the day-to-day life of people in Ladakh.
Chetsang Rinpoche also plans to spread this breed of Yak to the other side of Changthan on the LAC in Ladakh, and even to other parts of the world like Sikkim and Bhutan in the coming years.Apart from that, life release or animal liberation is a traditional Buddhist practise of saving the lives of beings that were destined for slaughter, therefore he has also committed to life release of the mix-breed of Yak.
A native, Tsering Dorjay, offered two calves to Chetsang Rinpoche and bought 8 calves from different groups.
The event was organised by Phobrang villagers under the leadership of Goba Konchok Stobgais and blessed by Nurbu Tsang Rinpoche, Venerable Droupon Stanzin, Gen Konchok Tsephel Councillor LAHDC, Leh (Sangha Community).
