Nationals sign former glove-throwing Mets reliever Jorge Lopez

The self-proclaimed “worst teammate” in baseball has a new team.
Former Mets reliever Jorge Lopez signed a new deal with the Nationals, the team announced Saturday.
Lopez gained infamy last season while with the Mets, when the right-handed reliever created considerable controversy, first by tossing his glove into the stands after he was ejected for arguing a check-swing call in a game against the Dodgers in May and then when he called himself “the worst teammate in the whole [f–king] MLB.”
When there was confusion about his comment, Lopez was asked to clarify if he meant to say the Mets were “the worst team,” Lopez — a native of Puerto Rico who was speaking English, his second language — said, “Yeah, probably. It looked like it.”
The 31-year-old later apologized to the team and his teammates, but later posted on Instagram he was misquoted.
The Mets soon released Lopez, who then signed with the Cubs, where he finished the season.
