
National Commission for Schedule Caste finds merit in Sameer Wankhede's complaint

Sameer Wankhede had approached NCSC with a complaint that he was being targeted as he belongs to mahar community. An SIT was formed to look into the allegations.
The National Commission for Schedule Caste (NCSC) has directed the Maharshtra government to file an FIR under SC/ST POA (prevention of atrocities) Act on the complaint filed by Sameer Wankhede, former zonal director of NCB Mumbai unit.
Sameer Wankhede had approached NCSC with a complaint that he was being targeted as he belongs to mahar community and was handling high-profile cases. An SIT was formed to look into the allegations.
The NCSC has recommended disbanding of the SIT. The NCSC has also ordered not to harrass the petitioner and his family in the name of inquiry.
As per the order of NCSC, within 7 days, the state has to submit a report to the commission on what action is taken on the recommendation along with the FIR copy.

Maharashtra State scrutiny committee have been asked to expedite the process of the caste certificate verification of Sameer Wankhede and submit a report within a month.
The NCSC has also asked the top bureaucrats and police officers of the Maharashtra government to be present before the commission on March 7.
