Mumbai’s Modak Sagar lake overflows from heavy rains, schools shut in several districts

The Modak Sagar lake in Mumbai started overflowing from heavy rains on Wednesday. Meanwhile, schools and colleges remain shut in several districts after IMD issued red alerts.
The Modak Sagar lake, the biggest supplier of portable water in Mumbai, started overflowing on Wednesday amid incessant heavy rainfall in the city. It is the first lake to overflow this monsoon season.

Meanwhile, an orange alert has been sounded in Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Satara, Amravati and Thane today as the weather department forecast heavy rains. The IMD also issued a red alert in Palghar, Nashik and Pune.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over the ghat areas of Maharashtra today and tomorrow.
In Thane, District Collector Rajesh Narvekar announced a holiday for all schools in the district on July 14 and 15. In Palghar, all schools and colleges will remain closed today.
Meanwhile, the Andheri subway was submerged under rainwater on Wednesday after heavy rainfall in the area.
