Mumbai: Nakabandi at over 100 spots to cut down drunk driving on New Year's eve

In a bid to curb drunk driving and traffic violations, the Mumbai traffic police will set up more than 100 nakabandi check-posts across the city on New Year's eve.
The Mumbai traffic police have planned special arrangements to curb drink driving and traffic violations on New Year's eve. The city police have already started a special drive from December 20 to crack down on drunk driving in the city and also resorted to appropriate measures during the Covid-19 pandemic.
This year, more than 100 nakabandi check-posts will be put up on Friday at strategically located points in the city to crack down on drink driving and other traffic violations, the Times of India (TOI) reported. With the outbreak of the deadly pandemic, the use of breathanalysers is not allowed, which poses a major challenge for the police to take suspected drunk drivers to hospitals for blood and alcohol tests.
