A 33-year-old man injured in a late-night road crash on February 5 allegedly caused by a minor driving an SUV has died after nine days of treatment in Mumbai, while his wife still remains in critical condition.

The accident occurred near Somaiya College on Tansa Pipeline Road around 11:15 pm on February 5, when a speeding SUV allegedly driven by a 17-year-old rammed into a scooter carrying Dhrumil Patel and his wife Meenal Patel.

According to police, the couple was returning home after closing their shop when the vehicle struck them head-on. The impact threw both riders onto the road, causing multiple fractures and severe injuries. 33-year-old man injured in a late-night road crash on February 5 allegedly caused by a minor driving an SUV has died after nine days of treatment in Mumbai.

They were initially taken to Rajawadi Hospital and later shifted to Zynova Shalby Hospital for advanced treatment. Dhrumil suffered a critical head injury and fractured ribs and remained on ventilator support before succumbing on Sunday. Meenal has undergone multiple surgeries for injuries to her limbs and pelvic bone and continues to be in a critical state.

Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s uncle, Mahesh Karamsi Patel, investigators found that the SUV was allegedly being driven by a minor. Police said the vehicle owner, Valji Raja Bhushan, allowed his underage son to drive despite knowing he did not possess a licence.

The Tilak Nagar Police have registered a case against Valji Raja Bhushan under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and 281, 125, 125(a) and 125(b) sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to rash driving and endangering life.
