Multiple homes evacuated in midtown Toronto after gas line hit, fire breaks out

Multiple homes on Balmoral Avenue in Toronto had to be evacuated Saturday afternoon after a gas line was damaged in the area, causing a fire to break out.
Emergency services personnel were called to the scene of the two-alarm fire at around 4:15 p.m., Toronto police said in a post to X.
Firefighters had evacuated people inside two homes on the street, a spokesperson for Toronto Fire Services said just before 5 p.m.
A short time later, police said in a post to X that homes on the north side of the street near Balmoral Avenue and Yonge Street were being evacuated as well.
No injuries have been reported and the main body of the fire has been knocked down, Toronto Fire Service said in a post to X at around 5:30 p.m. Firefighters remain at the scene while Enbridge crews are working on fixing the gas leak, the post says.
