Mount Rushmore fireworks returning for America's 250th anniversary
USA TODAY
Mount Rushmore will celebrate America's 250th anniversary with its first fireworks display in years, but the event won't be open to everyone.
For the first time since 2020, fireworks will fly over Mount Rushmore ahead of Independence Day, in honor of America's 250h anniversary.
The display will be held on July 3, in partnership with state of South Dakota, the National Park Service announced on March 9.
President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump attended the last fireworks celebration at the national memorial, when Kristi Noem was governor of South Dakota. At the time, he said, "There could be no better place to celebrate America’s independence than beneath this magnificent, incredible, majestic mountain and monument to the greatest Americans who have ever lived."
Current South Dakota Gov. Larry Rhoden has welcomed Trump back for this year's event, but not everyone may be eager for the festivities nor will everyone be able to go.
Hopeful attendees must get tickets through a Recreation.gov ticket lottery, as the event is not open to the general public.
