Mooseheads star Jordan Dumais facing impaired driving charges

The reigning most valuable player in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League is facing impaired driving charges.
Jordan Dumais, 19, a record-setting forward with the Halifax Mooseheads, was pulled over at 2:20 a.m. by Halifax Regional Police on a downtown street two weeks ago.
"Officers stopped a vehicle in the area of the 2000 block of Brunswick Street in Halifax for a traffic violation," said Const. Paul DesRochers, HRP's acting public information officer, said in an email. "Officers observed signs of impairment from the driver and arrested them."
Dumais had 140 points last season to lead the league and set the franchise single-season record. He became Halifax's all-time leading scorer earlier this season.
Dumais, who is from the Montreal area, is scheduled to be arraigned in Halifax provincial court on April 9.
On Thursday, the QMJHL and the Mooseheads announced Dumais had been suspended for five games, which means he will sit for the team's final four regular-season games and first playoff game. The suspension began with Thursday night's game against Charlottetown.
"Jordan Dumais violated the QMJHL and the team's code of conduct," said a statement from the Mooseheads. "Since this was an off-ice infraction, the matter was handled internally while the team remained in constant communication with the League."
The statement added Dumais and the team will not be commenting further.
Dumais, a third-round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2022, has not played in a Mooseheads game since December. He played for Team Canada at the world juniors in Sweden but then underwent abdominal surgery in Columbus following the tournament.
The Mooseheads say Dumais is healthy and will be eligible to rejoin the team for the second game of the playoffs. He has 47 points in 21 games this season.
