Residents near Ukkadam in Coimbatore lodge complaints with Forest Department about monkeys entering homes and causing disturbances.
Residents of Ponvizha Nagar, Anbu Nagar, and other localities near Ukkadam in Coimbatore have lodged complaints with the Forest Department about monkeys entering their houses and causing disturbances.
A group of Bonnet macaques, the residents said, have been frequenting houses in these localities, and often stole food from kitchens.
“On Sunday, a monkey entered a house at Anbu Nagar in search of food, unmindful of human presence. It retreated into nearby thickets only after the residents gave it a chase,” said Mohammed Kasim, resident of Anbu Nagar.
Coimbatore Forest Range Officer Thirumurugan said the Department contacted the residents, immediately after receiving an alert. “The residents informed us that the monkey fled after being chased. We have advised them to alert us immediately if the monkeys return to the area,” he said.
According to the officer, complaints regarding monkey menace have been reported from a few other places in the city, including a gated community at Race Course.
