Mika Zibanejad knows Rangers need swag back to solve puzzling home woes: ‘Just becomes meh’
NY Post
Where there’s a will there’s a way.
That was basically captain J.T. Miller’s assessment Saturday of the Rangers’ missing ingredient as their confounding struggles at the Garden continue.
Mika Zibanejad doesn’t necessarily see it that way, however, saying after the Blueshirts fell to 2-8-1 on home ice with a 4-1 loss to the Lightning that he believes effort and will are only part of the problem.
They also need to rediscover their creativity and their swagger offensively.
“I’ve said it before and we’ve talked about it, too, that we want to create the type of environment that’s gonna be hard to come here and get the points,” Zibanejad said after Saturday’s loss halted the Rangers’ three-game winning streak, including road wins in Carolina and Boston. “But right now it’s just we’re not creating that energy. I don’t know if at this point it becomes about gripping the stick too hard.
“But we’re just not doing anything. It just becomes meh. You can talk about will, you can talk about how much you want it, but, like, you just have to find a way to just let loose and just go play. That’s at least how I feel at times. It’s just not hockey. We have to find a way to make plays and play with a little more swag, honestly.”
