
How the Jets addressed their biggest needs in free agency — and what’s left to do

The first few waves of free agency have come and gone. It feels like a good time to check in on what the Jets have done and what still needs to be done.
The Jets attacked their defense, adding eight new players who could have prominent roles this season.
They did a little less on offense, but they added two new starters in Geno Smith and Dylan Parham.
I did a roster analysis at the beginning of February and listed a “need scale” for each position. I’m going to bring that back here and see how well general manager Darren Mougey and coach Aaron Glenn did in addressing those needs. The need scale was 1 to 5, with 5 being the biggest needs.

We’re approaching five years — amazingly — since the team president answered questions from the independent media, and I’ve always maintained that’s poor practice because it avoids responsibility. If there’s no public explanation behind a move or a goal, there’s no accountability if it doesn’t work out.
