Tim David scored 34 runs off 11 balls after he got a reply on the very first ball he faced. Due to the error, Delhi Capitals (DC) faced elimination from the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL).
Mumbai Indians (DC) have defeated the Delhi Capitals (DC) by five wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to end their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign on a positive note. After the defeat, the Capitals have been shown the door of elimination. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), in the meantime, have made their way through to the playoffs.
After being put into bat first, the Capitals got off to a nervy start as Daniel Sams and Jasprit Bumrah removed the Australian duo of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh cheaply. Prithvi Shaw, who replaced Lalit Yadav in the XI after recovering from typhoid, smashed two fours and one six and looked good on 24.
But a vicious bouncer from Bumrah led to his dismissal just when he was looking to up the ante. Sarfaraz Khan also perished without contributing much. However, it was Rovman Powell, who churned out a well-made 34-ball knock of 43 with one four and four sixes.
On the back of his knock, the Capitals set MI a reasonable target of 160 to chase down. Rishabh Pant also led from the front as he scored 39 crucial runs in the middle order. Ramandeep Singh dismissed him to cut short his stay in the middle.
Axar Patel gave the DC innings a final flourish with a quick-fire knock of 19 off 10 balls. Bumrah was the standout bowler for MI as he picked up three wickets for only 25 runs. Mayank Markande was also economical and he got the wicket of the dangerous Sarfaraz.
RCB knocked out
Mumbai made a horrendous start to their run-chase as their skipper Rohit Sharma got out after a laborious 13-ball 2. Thereafter, Ishan Kishan and Dewald Brevis restored sanity to proceedings with an all-important 51-run stand for the second wicket.
