Political commentator Mehdi Hasan refuted Republicans’ mantra that President Donald Trump is merely fulfilling promises to those who voted for him. (Watch the video below.)
In a guest return to MSNBC on the “ReidOut” Wednesday, the former host said the GOP’s attitude was that “Trump is the state” and should not be questioned.
“I keep hearing this line: ‘This is what people voted for.’ No, they didn’t,” Hasan told host Joy Reid. “I don’t remember him on the campaign trail saying, ‘I’m going to take over Gaza.’ He didn’t promise it, and by the way, the American public don’t want it.”
Reid had decried Trump’s “gangster government” and his slew of executive orders that “do nothing” to bring down prices. She criticized his threats to wrest Greenland from Denmark and perhaps even annex Canada. Then came his outrageous notion to “take” Gaza and permanently relocate residents to make room for a resort area.
Hasan referenced polls published by Zeteo, the media company he founded, which indicate most Americans reject those expansion ideas.
