Meg Lanning has confirmed her return to the Women's Premier League in 2027 after a difficult season with UP Warriorz. Her comeback signals a strong desire to compete and lead despite recent challenges.
Meg Lanning has confirmed that she will return for the WPL in 2027, following a difficult season with the UP Warriorz in 2026. In the first three seasons of the WPL, Lanning enjoyed tremendous success, helping Delhi Capitals finish at the top of the table and eventually as runners-up.
However, her stint with the Warriorz was challenging, with the team failing to qualify for the playoffs under her captaincy. The Warriorz ended the season at the bottom of the table, earning just four points and recording a net run rate of -1.076, the lowest among all five teams.
Although Lanning retired from international cricket in November 2023, she has continued to compete in domestic cricket, representing Victoria in the WNCL, Melbourne Stars in the WBBL, and both the Capitals and Warriorz in the WPL.
Lanning expressed her passion for bringing out the best in her teammates and confirmed that she plans to return next season, aiming to play for a couple more years.
“Yeah, absolutely. I'm still thoroughly enjoying my cricket. I love playing and coming into teams like this and trying to get the best out of people and trying to get the best out of myself too. I'm very competitive. I love to try and win and that fire is certainly still there.
“So absolutely, I'll be back next year and hopefully a bit longer than that as well,” Lanning said after the match against the Capitals on Sunday.
