The Lord's-based Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the sole authority on the laws of cricket since it was founded in 1787, said the changes are effective immediately.
The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has decided to amend the Laws of Cricket and change the term 'batsman' to a more gender-neutral term 'batter' to reflect the "changing landscape of the game in modern times".
“MCC believes in cricket being a game for all and this move recognises the changing landscape of the game in modern times,” said Jamie Cox of Marylebone Cricket Club, the Lord’s-based organisation regarded as the guardian of the laws of the game.
