To spread awareness of blood donation, educate people about its importance and encourage them to come forward to donate blood, Blood Donors Club of Madurai Medical College conducted a marathon, ‘Uthiram 26,’ in the city on Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Madurai North) S. Madhivanan flagged off the marathon on the medical college premises at 6 a.m.. The run passed through Anna Bus Stand, Aavin, Velu Nachiyar Flyover, Sundaram Park, Flower Market, K.K. Nagar entrance arch, Raja Muthiah Mandram and Gandhi Memorial Museum before concluding on the college premises. As many as 1,850 people took part in the marathon.
Government Rajaji Hospital Dean L. Arul Sundaresh Kumar, Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Aassociation president K. Senthil, Vice-Principal of Madurai Medical College S. Malliga, Medical Superintendent A. Kumaravel, Head of Department IHBT M. Sintha, RMO Saravanan and Anbarasan participated.
