Manchester City will have 99 shots on target: Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti quashes idea of defensive football

Real Madrid lost the first leg by one goal in a seven goal thriller. Both Ancelotti and Benzema vowed that the fans should be up for a surprise in the second leg of the competition.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has argued that Real Madrid will not be sitting back in a low block against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final in Santiago Bernabeu on Thursday, May 5.

Real Madrid had earlier vowed to overturn the lead, calling upon the magic of the Bernabeu, with Karim Benzema stating that the fans should be ready for a surprise. Real Madrid have a habit of coming clutch in tense situations in the Champions League, but it might be a little more difficult for Carlo Ancelotti this time around.

Full back David Alaba will be out injured in the second leg as Real struggle to settle on a steady backline, but the Italian coach will be boosted by the return of defensive mid-fielder Casemiro, who was not available for the team in the first leg of the tournament. However, Ancelotti stated that they will not be handing over the game to Manchester City by sitting deep and let them dictate the pace of the game.

"If we go back and try to defend with a low block, with 10 men on our box, City will have 99 shots on target. Sometimes you need to take risks and we were very successful this season when risking because we have a lot of quality up front," Ancelotti said in a press conference ahead of the game.

"It will be clash of two very different teams. Two teams with different qualities, collective and individual. But we'll have home advantage and we'll be aggressive as always. We have a quality up front that gives us the luxury to be daring in offence.

"...the collective commitment will probably be what decides it. We need to improve from the first leg, moving better as a block. Being in a better position in defence, working as a unit and Casemiro's return is very important in that aspect," he said of the Brazilian who missed the first leg through injury.

Madrid are high on spirits after winning the LaLiga title with several games remaining and at the moment are enjoying a splendid touch.
