Nova Scotia's police watchdog is investigating after the death of a second person who was Tasered by Halifax police in less than a week.
In a statement Saturday, Halifax police say they were called to a residence on Farringdon Way in Bedford, N.S., on Friday night due to a 37-year-old man "displaying erratic behaviour."
The man became aggressive with police and was Tasered, the Serious Incident Response Team said in a statement Saturday.
SIRT said police handcuffed the man and paramedics were called. SIRT said the man needed medical assistance and police administered first aid and gave him naloxone — a medication used to reverse the effects of opioid overdoses — as part of their efforts.
Paramedics and Halifax firefighters also tried to save the man's life, police say.
The man was taken to hospital where he was declared dead.
Halifax police directed all inquiries to SIRT.
Last weekend, a 25-year-old man died under similar circumstances when Halifax police responded to a mental health call on Vimy Avenue. The man was Tasered during a struggle with police and later died in police custody while at the premises.

Sarnia City Council will hold a special meeting Tuesday morning to respond to social media comments made by Coun. Bill Dennis, who criticized city spending on a new mural by Indigenous artist Kennady Osborne as “virtue signalling by woke politicians” — then made a series of comments in response to a reply from Aamjiwnaang Chief Janelle Nahmabin that some have characterized as unprofessional and aggressive.
