Mamdani puts protecting illegal migrants ahead of street safety
NY Post
In his latest “do anything to shield illegal migrants” move, Mayor Zohran Mamdani is practically handing “deliveristas” a license to maim and kill.
The NYPD last year began citing e-bike sidewalk speeders and scofflaws with criminal summonses, not just traffic citations, precisely to protect pedestrians from this rising urban menace.
Writing traffic tickets for cyclists is a waste of time, Commissioner Jessica Tisch explained, because riders who ignore them face zero consequences.
But the pro-illegal-immigration crowd was furious, because any kind of criminal record could open the door to the feds apprehending and deporting the e-bike scofflaw.
Because all prog causes now blend together, pro-bicycle obsessives howled, too: “In a time of mass deportation,” the smug lefties at Transportation Alternatives cried, the city chose an “agenda of extralegal harassment.”
“Increased criminal enforcement of e-bike riders, where we have a high concentration of undocumented people, is going to lead to more people getting wrongly deported,” quavered Councilman Lincoln Restler (D-Greenpoint).
