dpaBamakoThe military junta in Mali has ordered Danish special forces to leave the country âimmediatelyâ. The Danish unit, in Mali to help fight Islamist terrorism, were there without the transitional governmentâs consent, a statement said, adding its deployment was ânoted with astonishmentâ.The Danish troops are part of a French task force but Mali said all nations forming part of the force needed prior approval.The ex-French colony with its 20 million inhabitants has been troubled for years by Islamist terrorist groups. Many militias, some of which have sworn allegiance to Islamic State (IS) or Al-Qaeda, regularly carry out attacks in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso. Governments have little control in the desert outside the cities.Mali has experienced three military coups since 2012 and is politically extremely unstable. The last coup took place in May of last year.
