PETALING JAYA – Thirty-four smart lanes at strategic locations along PLUS Malaysia Berhad’s highway network will be activated to improve traffic flow.
PLUS, the largest expressway operator in Malaysia and South-east Asia, said this is to ease congestion during peak travel periods when main lanes slow down.
PLUS managing director Nik Airina Nik Jaffar said during a press conference on March 12 that the activation of smart lanes at each location would depend on traffic conditions.
“Notification of smart lane activation can be seen on signboards and green flashing lights installed at designated locations,” she added.
Datuk Nik Airina said the maximum speed limit in smart lanes is set at 60kmh for safety purposes.
A total of 2.3 million vehicles are expected to use the PLUS highways as road users make their way home for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
