Major Dhyan Chand could have been honoured without insulting Rajiv Gandhi: Shiv Sena

The Shiv Sena said hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand could have been honoured without "insulting the sacrifice" of prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. This comes after Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award was renamed after Major Dhyan Chand by the BJP-led government at the Centre.

The Shiv Sena said that a bigger award could have been announced in the name of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand instead of renaming Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. In an editorial in its mouthpiece 'Saamana' on Monday, the Sena said Major Dhyan Chand could have been honoured "without insulting the sacrifice of Rajiv Gandhi" and accused the Centre of indulging in "political games".
