Maharashtra HM to meet senior IPS officials, Raj Thackeray’s Aurangabad rally under scrutiny

Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil will meet the DGP and other senior police officers to determine if any rules were flouted at Raj Thackeray’s Aurangabad rally and take action, if necessary.
Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil will review the law and order situation in the state in a meeting with the Director General of Police and senior IPS officers in Mumbai on Tuesday, days after MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s massive rally in Aurangabad.
In his speech at the rally, Thackeray had reiterated his ultimatum to the state government demanding the removal of loudspeakers from mosques, or he would play Hanuman Chalisa to drown out the sound of azaan.
The home minister will seek reports from Aurangabad Police regarding any rules flouted during the MNS rally and initiate action, if necessary, said police sources. Reports from different local branches will be sent to the Maharashtra home ministry today.
Aurangabad's Special Branch of Police Commissioner's Office sent a daily report to the SID. That daily report has been forwarded to the DGP. The primary report was analysed by senior police officials and will be reviewed in today's meeting with Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil.

Prima facie, police have concluded that Raj Thackeray violated the terms and conditions laid down by the police department for the rally. Aurangabad Police Commissioner Nikhil Gupta said they are currently reviewing what action should be taken against him and the organisers. The final report will be sent to the DG after that, sources said.
Action is likely to be taken only after the senior officers examine the report and decide whether a case should be filed against Raj Thackeray or the organisers. The home ministry will also seek the advice of law and judiciary department of the state government regarding sections to be slapped if serious violations are observed.
