Madras HC cancels bail granted to Thoothukudi girl murder accused in another similar crime from 2022.
The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday cancelled the bail granted to Dharmamuneeswaran, the accused in the Thoothukudi Class XII student sexual assault and murder case, in another case of a similar nature.
A Division Bench of Justices N. Anand Venkatesh and K.K. Ramakrishnan withdrew the earlier order passed by a Coordinate Division Bench that granted suspension of the life sentence awarded to Dharmamuneeswaran pending appeal in the case pertaining to the sexual assault and murder of a woman in 2022 in Ettayapuram in the district.
The court was hearing the petition filed by the State seeking cancellation of bail granted to Dharmamuneeswaran. Thoothukudi Mahila court in 2024 convicted and sentenced him to life imprisonment for offences under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The trial court judgment was challenged. The High Court in 2025 suspended the sentence after imposing conditions. The petition was filed on the ground that Dharmamuneeswaran was once again involved in another offence under the POCSO Act and an FIR was registered. He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody in the case. The State said he had misused the liberty granted by the High Court by committing a heinous crime. The investigation had been completed in the case, it was submitted.
Taking note of the subsequent crime that had been allegedly committed by Dharmamuneeswaran and nature of offence involved, the court withdrew the earlier order passed by the court in 2025 and cancelled the bail granted to him.

The West Asia crisis has thrown the manufacturing sector into disarray, causing significant operational bottlenecks that show no signs of easing. This situation is affecting port operations, shipping activities, container movement, and energy supply — particularly Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). These disruptions are driving costs higher, say industry players, expressing fears about a much bleaker future if conditions do not improve.
