Lower respiratory infections when young could be linked to earlier adult deaths: study

Young children who contract lower respiratory tract infections, such as bronchitis or pneumonia, are twice as likely to die prematurely from those conditions as adults, a study finds.
The new study was conducted by a group of London researchers and led by Dr. James Peter Allinson of the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London. It was published in The Lancet this week. Young children who developed a lower respiratory infection were 93% more likely to die from that disease before age 73, said the study.
