The two suspects were arrested Saturday after DNA was recovered from the crime scene.
The two suspects arrested in the Louvre heist have “partially” admitted to the plot and have been hit with preliminary charges, according to a Paris prosecutor.
The preliminary charges include criminal conspiracy and theft committed by an organized gang, prosecutor Laure Beccuau said in a press conference on Wednesday. If convicted, they could both face heavy fines and 15 years in prison.
“Both have partially admitted their involvement to investigators,” Beccuau said at the press conference, according to French news outlet France 24, which reports in English.
The two suspects — a 34-year-old man from Algeria and a 39-year-old man from Aubervilliers, France — were arrested Saturday after DNA was recovered from the scene.
The 34-year-old suspect, who has theft and traffic violations on his record, was taken into custody at the airport when he was attempting to return to Algeria, according to The Associated Press. The 39-year-old suspect, who has previously been convicted of committing aggravated theft, was arrested at his home, AP also reported.
