Both vaccinated and unvaccinated residents in Los Angeles County will be required to wear face masks indoors again, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced Thursday. The order, which goes into effect Saturday at 11:59pm local time, comes as transmission rates are rising in the area.
"Masking indoors must again become a normal practice by all, regardless of vaccination status, so that we can stop the trends and level of transmission we are currently seeing," Los Angeles County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis said at a press conference Thursday. The order is expected to remain in place until community transmission rates of the virus begin to improve, he said.Ashley White received her earliest combat action badge from the United States Army soon after the first lieutenant arrived in Afghanistan. The silver military award, recognizing soldiers who've been personally engaged by an attacker during conflict, was considered an achievement in and of itself as well as an affirming rite of passage for the newly deployed. White had earned it for using her own body to shield a group of civilian women and children from gunfire that broke out in the midst of her third mission in Kandahar province. All of them survived. She never mentioned the badge to anyone in her battalion.
