Former New Zealand captain and outgoing coach of Kolkata Knight Riders Brendon McCullum succeeds Chris Silverwood as England men's Test coach.
Brendon McCullum on Thursday revealed the reason behind taking up the job of England Men's Test coach. The former New Zealand captain and the outgoing coach of Kolkata Knight Riders stated that he liked the idea of building something from a pretty low base.
In a candid interview shared on England Cricket Board's website, McCullum said, "Keen on challenges, liked the idea of build something from a pretty low base and without being disrespectful towards before in the English setup.
"I think last 12-18 months have been trying time. Looks like there's an appetite for change and an appetite to try. Just recalibrate things and reengage the talent which sits among the English players. The challenge enthused me and Stokesy (Ben Stokes) in the chair of skipper. I think his personality should align as well."
"If Test Cricket is to not just sustain but to thrive then it needs England playing an attractive brand of Cricket."
McCullum succeeds Chris Silverwood, who was sacked as England coach after the team's Ashes humiliation in Australia.
