'Lightyear' Writer Reminds Snoop Dogg Exactly Why Film's Lesbian Couple 'Matters'

Lauren Gunderson said she's proud of the film "to infinity" after the rapper's homophobic comments about the 2022 animated movie.
A writer for Pixar’s “Lightyear” is defending the movie’s LGBTQ representation after Snoop Dogg claimed he’s “scared to go to the movies” due to his grandson asking him about a lesbian couple in the 2022 animated film.
Lauren Gunderson — who is credited for contributing “additional screenplay material” for “Lightyear” — revealed on Threads that she “created” the lesbians when, while writing early versions of what would later become the film back in 2018, “a key character needed a partner.”
“It was so natural to write ‘she’ instead of ‘he,’” wrote Gunderson in part of a series of posts on Wednesday.
“As small as that detail is in the film, I knew the representational effect it could have. Small line, big deal. I was elated that they kept it. I’m proud of it. To infinity. Love is love.”
The film — which serves as an origin story for Buzz Lightyear of the “Toy Story” movies — sees Alisha Hawthorne, Buzz’s best friend and commanding officer, married to another woman and sharing a kiss.
